Honda announces its entry into the eMtb segment

2 October 2026

Honda marks a significant milestone in its journey in the world of two wheels with its first participation in the Sea Otter Europe 2026 in Girona, using the famous cycling festival as a stage to demonstrate the brand’s commitment to innovation, performance, and electric mobility. Concurrently with this first presence at Sea Otter Europe, Honda has officially confirmed its entry into the electric mountain bike market. This choice further expands the brand’s mobility solutions and represents the next step in the company’s ongoing commitment to electrification and the development of innovative mobility solutions for customers across Europe. The new model will be marketed in 2027 and further information regarding the product name, availability, prices, and introduction in various markets will be communicated at a later date. The inspiration for the new model is strongly influenced by the foundation presented with the Honda eMtb Prototype, one of the models exhibited at Sea Otter Europe. The Honda e-MTB Prototype has been designed to embody the values that have characterized the brand for generations, combining advanced technology, engineering quality, and rider-focused development. Alongside the eMtb Prototype, at the Honda stand, there is also a diverse collection of two-wheeled electric vehicles: the legendary RN01 from the early 2000s, the electric CR Electric Proto motocross bike, and the electric RTL Electric trial bike. This range highlights the breadth of Honda’s ambitions in the field of electric mobility, which also includes the EM1 electric moped and the CUV e: electric scooter (both powered by the interchangeable Mobile Power Pack battery) and the WN7, Honda’s first electric motorcycle. Representing the past, present, and future of the brand, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover a range of technologies and ideas that could define the next generation of two-wheeled electric products. In addition to the RN01 and e-MTB Prototype models, the frames of both bikes will also be displayed separately, allowing visitors to appreciate the engineering and construction solutions that have guided their development. The pre-launch activity is further supported by Toni Bou. The official Honda rider, fresh from achieving the historic milestone of forty (40) FIM Trial World Champion titles, is a mountain biking enthusiast and was among the first to ride the new eMtb for the creation of dedicated photos and videos of the model. Bou’s participation combines Honda’s prestigious racing tradition with the brand’s latest mobility proposal, underlining the company’s constant commitment to performance and innovation in all two-wheeled disciplines. Albert Erlacher, Head of Motorcycles at Honda Germany and project manager for eMtb, stated: “Sea Otter Europe represents the ideal platform for Honda to connect with the cycling community and get to know it better. The e-MTB Prototype combines Honda’s distinctive style with proven engineering to offer a unique riding experience. This is an exciting moment for Honda as we confirm our entry into a new segment, and we look forward to sharing further details with customers ahead of the launch.”
